Originally built in the 1910’s for the Richardson Mint Company, MaKen Studios North spent it’s last 30+ years as the retail location for JoMar, a discount textile reseller. We re-visioned the 120,000-square-foot industrial facility into studio, office, and event space for artists, businesses, and creative entrepreneurs.

MaKen Studios North was redesigned to communicate a balance between old and new, heritage and modernity. Our spaces and studios boast unique architectural elements and ample natural light. The Urban Land Institute recognized MaKen Studios North and, its sister building, MaKen Studios South for excellence in adaptive reuse, neighborhood revitalization and catalytic economic development.

MaKen Studios North is home to an array of diverse personalities and small businesses who are an integral part of the thriving arts and cultural movement in Philadelphia and beyond.
